Red-breasted Sapsuckers also flycatch, particularly during the breeding season.

One of the best places we’ve found to watch sapsuckers in action is a place called Earth Sanctuary in Freeland, on Whidbey Island, WA. For several years, during the month of June, we have seen the adults fly-catching insects over the main pond there as well as gleaning insects from stumps and spider webs.
